Tivo Withdrawl!

Posted on August 19, 2005 by jaypoc

Those of you who have a TiVo will completely understand while the rest of you will have no clue and probably believe that I’m just nuts.

It’s alreadt started! I sent out my TiVo for repair today, and watching TV is not as enjoyable as it was only 24 hours ago. After the freak storm and power outage that killed half the electronics in my house (includeing my Cable Modem, Network Switch, Router’s Network Card, and 2 TV Boxes) my Tivo stopped making it’s calls in for updated programming. I left it running as long as I could, but at 5AM this morning, TiVo ran out of programming. Every channel gave a blank name and description of it’s shows. It was horrible.

I’m considering going to Cablevision and picking up a DVR for a month while they repair the TiVo. I should have it back in 2 to 3 weeks.

Aaaarrrgggghhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They’re not worth it. Ours are going back ASAP. Much less features and you actually have to program the exact time and channel you want something to record – rather than just knowing the title as per TiVo.

Run don’t walk & get the DVR, or just don’t watch TV for the month. TV without TiVo is unbearable. The DVRs do suck, but if you are used to TiVo & having the ability to rewind & pause & stuff then it is worth it. I’m sorry & I feel for you, I don’t know if I would be able to cope.

Being an employee of the cable company, I get a discount on the box, and I’m only getting it for the month that I am without the TiVo. As soon as the TiVo comes back, I’ll either return the DVR or give it to my brother who is Tivoless. I want it more for the timeshifting capabilities. I wont mind programming it manually.

    No, I wasn’t. But I wish I was! I love that place!

After all, 3/4 of MEAT is EAT and Greenfields IS “All You Can Eat Meat”

    As I said… if you don’t have a TiVo, you just don’t understand! 😉

It actually sucked Friday. They were busy and they ran out of EVERYTHING (I mean, I can only eat so much BEEF KABOB!) and they came to our table excatly 5 times. Then I watched the meat guy go up to the table you could have been sitting at, turn around and go the other way. Very disappointing.

That stinks… They did that once to us… .We didn’t take it. We told them to keep coming to the table and bring exotic stuff… We all prefer the “Weird” stuff… and we’ll sit there until they bring it 🙂

And remember… First person to flip the block to the red side becomes the next course per the rest of us!

they don’t do “exotic” stuff anymore. it blows. I want to go to Master Grill in Queens, suppsoedly they still rock. And there is one right off of 9th ave in the 50s.

Well, The Cablevision DVR is out…. I have to apply to it from an internal website which is down right now, and it can take a week or 2 for approval… By the time i get the box, I’ll have my TiVo back. lol

but I can’t actually understand what it is like. When I’m on vacation, I barely bother to watch television. When I move, my new place is not home until I have repeated guided setup and linked to my new cable box.

I do have one solution. Get a NetFlix trial and order a ton of your favourite shows on DVD. I watched four seasons of Deep Space Nine while moving. No commercials, no crap TV in the middle of the night. Better yet, find out what TV shows friends own on DVD and borrow.

Of course, everytime the scene would fade, I would start fastforwarding, and have to backtrack. Old habits die hard.

Nstflix is a great idea, but won’t help me. I have seen the entire series of DS9, and the other “trek” series…. I primarily record first-run only episodes of the shows I watch (4400, Stargate SG-1, Stargate Atlantis, Tripping the Rift, Medium, Veronica Mars, Lost, etc…)

Then there’s the occaisional recommends which I watch when I’m trying to go to sleep, and they’re usually more entertaining than the bullshiy that’s actually on at 3 and 4 AM.
