I figure it’s a good time to turn my desktop into a Linux Workstation…. My laptop runs XP and is much more capable of gaming/performance computing so I can afford to turn my desktop into a Redhat system.
It’s primary function is to surf the web anyways.
I’ll be able to set it up as a DHCP, SMB and FTP server as well as an experimental development platform for web development
Awesome. I have Red Hat 9 running my webserver. I don’t know much more about Linux than what was needed to make the apache part make my webserver work. I am hosting my own domain but I am scared that if my ISP found out they would shut me down so I went out & bought another domain 🙂 I am such a geek!
I will try to be of some help, that is if you need any, you don’t seem to though. Repayment for the webcam help 🙂
Much appreciated….
Actually, I have been running a Linux server for about 8 years or so now…Started on a 486 DX2-66 running Slackware to a P90 and now, it’s a K6-2/450 running Redhat…. In addition, I was an administrator for the ISP I worked for. I managed their Radius, DNS, Email, and Web servers (at the time, all running on various flavors of linux. At one point I had a Sun SparcStation running at my house, but it was just a loaner.
I will keep you in mind though. It’s been a few years since I’ve done an install and I’m going to play around with X this time. For server installs I never install the GUI.
